Summer

Summer is coming to an end.
All the memories are spinning around in my head, and I can't quite keep them in order.
I just think of summer dresses,
my feet in cool, refreshing pool water,
and the beach.
Taking a walk in a field full of grass, very dry grass after the long drought,
similar to the desert,
where it hardly rains at all.
On a road trip I admire the raw beauty of a sunset.
Summer light can change everything,
even a bare looking wall in a boring city.
Also, bare feet are always part of summer,
bare, dirty feet,
walking around in mud after a long anticipated thunderstorm, and afterwards climbing a tree.

Light and warmth I enjoy the most, and...
I miss the most when it gets cold.

How cool that you chose all black and white this week, Manuela! Your images draw attention to the summer light you described so well!

Fantastic photos!

I like the quiet grace of this set. Do you shoot with the camera in a B&W mode, or do you "photoshop" images captured with color into B&W? Whatever, they are great.

It's so nice to have you back! I hope you feel settled in your new home.

I love the first photo, because it does sum up summer so well. But I also love the one of the wall with light reflections nearly as much. They are all beautiful, truly!

I love all the warbling light and the small details that are in focus in these. I don't know if it was intentional but it makes me think of the way the world looks when I am squinting in bright sun and heat. Some of the photos feel like sleepy warmth and some feel hot.

Summer is not my favorite season, but taking time to think through this end-of-summer theme and your set in particular makes me realize that it is such a necessary time of soaking up heat and light that will be necessary for the rest of the year. I'm grateful for summer and I'm grateful that it also ends and becomes a memory.
